the golden compass
I picked up a copy of The Golden Compass this week and I started reading it last night. I’m very enamored with the idea of reading children’s books of this type right now — maybe that’s because they capture the imagination better then anything else.
I probably don’t really have time to read it right now, but I want to read it in case I actually get a chance to see the movie next month. There’s also a lot of chatter against these books in Christian circles right now. I have some opinions that will likely be forthcoming about all that, but I figured I wanted to have actually engaged with at least the first book before commenting on it all.

Hi,
I am curious to hear your review of the book. I am a Christian and I hope that others will take advantage of this opportunity rather than simply griping about it. I think that Christian’s who honestly and humbly dialog with the atheist speak much louder than those who boycott such things. Regardless, I look forward to hearing what you think about it.

John, i respect that you are willing to actually check out what all the commotion is about. So many people will just dismiss something without first engaging it. I remember when you and Zach did a podcast about the Da Vinci Code. I think you guys brought up the same thing then. I struggle with a deep rooted cynicism for the Christian culture bubble. I can’t see much point in boycotting or worse. I also don’t understand the idea of huddling together when there is an obvious need for us to positively influence the culture. Anyway, just thought I would let you know that I respect the fact that you are willing to at least examine the “enemy”.
